Participation & Outreach

In Berlin, there are sometimes high hurdles to the participation of children and adolescents (participation atlas for children and adolescents, 2024). In contrast, there are three central wishes expressed by young people: Recreational opportunities, self-determination, participation.
Through various projects and offers, we invite young people to participate and participate. In addition to participatory offers for young people, we rely on a workshop programme for teachers and pupils, which is based on the now established format ‘Perceive dance’, as well as on further training offers for teachers in order to bring the age group from 12 onwards more into contact with dance in the future. In the future, it will be about developing new participatory strategies and outreach offers together with young people and then testing them.

Perceiving dance

“Dancing” is a free format developed by Amelie Mallmann as part of the Offensive Tanz. It is aimed at all those who know and understand more about the creation of dance pieces and want to train their own resonance ability. How can I get involved in a dance piece? What does it take for this? Together we tune in to the piece, sharpen our perception and try out movements that can be recognized later in the piece.

Dance ambassadors: female

The project “Dance Ambassadors” focuses on networking, empowerment and visibility: Like-minded people come together and share their enthusiasm for dance. The dance ambassadors explore Berlin's dance scene together, record impressions in blog posts, meet professional dance professionals and design workshops themselves.
The work is remunerated and there are free tickets for the PURPLE Dance Festival and other dance performances in Berlin.

Poetry & Dance Slam Battle

Our regularly held Poetry & Dance Slam Battle at Theater Strahl is inspired by the classic Dance Battle and combines it with the world of Poetry Slam. The format was developed by Florian Bilbao in 2023 and has taken place six times since then.

The concept is based on the following questions:
Is it possible to create a format in which poets and dancers discover and challenge each other? What conditions would have to be met for each artist to feel supported and at the same time be able to leave their own comfort zone?

Workshops at the PURPLE Dance Festival

PURPLE Tanzfestival 2027, in cooperation with Offensive Tanz, offers preparatory workshops for visiting eight Berlin schools. These are led by professional dance educators and combine content and dance access to pieces from the festival program in order to deepen the perception and understanding of the stage work. In addition, a follow-up format takes place after the festival visit, for example in the form of a workshop or an audience discussion, in order to sustainably reflect and anchor the experience.
