International Dance Festival for Young Audiences

Since 2017, our goal has been to inspire children and young people to dance with our festival and to arouse their curiosity about contemporary performances. The name PURPLE symbolizes our desire to appeal to everyone. Purple combines the colors blue and red, makes no difference between boys and girls and stands for openness and inclusion.
PURPLE is there for everyone!

For our viewers, engaging with dance promotes emotional and spatial perception and requires abstract thinking skills. Every year we put together an exciting stage program with different aesthetic approaches and themes from the international, contemporary dance scene.

We not only want to sharpen the viewing habits of our young audience, but also encourage participation, compassion and further thinking. In addition to our stage program, we offer a comprehensive supporting program. A special mediation format is offered for each piece, and there are several free dance workshops for children and teenagers on weekends.

Also teachers: Inside and educators: Inside, we get the chance to gain basic knowledge about contemporary dance. A free workshop is intended to motivate them to integrate dance into everyday school life even after attending the festival.

Since the beginning, the Uferstudios have been our festival centre. We cooperate with numerous Berlin cultural institutions such as HAU Hebbel am Ufer, Theater an der Parkaue, Theater Strahl, TANZKOMPLIZEN, Theater o.N. and Jugendtheaterwerkstatt Spandau in order to introduce young people to dance art on various stages throughout the city. We are part of the project ‘Offensive Dance for Young Audiences’ and aim to make dance more visible to young audiences in Berlin. In addition, we are expanding our international network in the field of dance in order to create synergies for this young division.
