A dance-like journey of discovery to our roots

Roots stand for strength and resistance, but also for security and anchoring, for cohesion and growth. ‘Wurzala’ is the Old High German term for it. Two dancers are looking for movements that reflect the characteristics of roots. They combine West African, Afro-Caribbean and contemporary dance and ask: How can we understand the complex connections and ramifications of life with the help of roots? Can we find solutions with our body when our roots come under pressure? How can we become stronger together, just like a network of roots?

For the development of the duet, they enter into an intensive exchange with a school class in order to explore together with the young audience the concept of cohesion and resistance through movement.

A production of Offensive Tanz für junges Audience Berlin as part of the project RAUSGEHEN, funded by TANZPAKT Stadt-Land-Bund from funds of the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media and the Senate Department for Culture and Europe. In cooperation with the Berlin Mondiale and the Evangelical Church in the Gropiusstadt.

*The Apfelsinenplatz is a junction of the Berlin Mondiale together with the Ev. Church community in the Gropiusstadt Süd. The Berlin Mondiale is a Berlin-wide network of cultural professionals and artists who deal with urban practice in the context of migration, asylum and exile.
