The dance performance ‘Push’ brings the idea of empowerment to life. The two dancers reflect the inner attitudes and resistance of the spectators in the school context. Throughout the play, the dancers encourage each other to overcome their own fears, through self-confidence and the power of community.
The circle symbolises the unity and common quest for ‘safe(r) spaces’ in which artists can feel comfortable and free themselves from all shame and social constraints.
The dance style House Dance originated in the late 70s in the underground clubs of New York and is now widespread worldwide.
The piece was conceived and rehearsed at the Hector-Peterson-Schule, Kreuzberg. 15 school classes experienced and helped shape the artistic process during workshops and rehearsals.
The piece will be shown as part of the ‘Equity in Dance’ section. A production of Offensive Tanz für junges Audience Berlin as part of the project RAUSGEHEN, funded by TANZPAKT Stadt-Land-Bund from funds of the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media and the Senate Department for Culture and Europe. In cooperation with the Berlin Mondiale and the Evangelical Church in the Gropiusstadt.
