A stage full of black sacks. Slowly they come to life, they straighten up, move on, explore the space. Suddenly an arm appears, then a leg, finally a whole human being. Franz Kafka's unfinished story »Der Bau« describes an animal building, built by an animal that seeks shelter in the underground caves and corridors and then increasingly loses itself in them. The narrative serves as a title-giving metaphor and starting point for the exploration of a special relationship between body and space. The 40 malleable, large-format beanbags are the material for the group work DER BAU-Gruppe / Kids, which is shaped by 5 performers into complex structures and choreographic structures.

DER BAU was initially a performance for an adult audience as a group piece, for FRATZ 2020 Isabelle Schad adapted the piece for children from 3 years of age.

A production by Isabelle Schad in collaboration with de facto, Zagreb and Studentski Centar Sveucilista u Zagrebu. Supported by the NATIONALE PERFORMANCE NETZ (NPN) Coproduction Support for Dance from funds of the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media on the basis of a resolution of the German Bundestag and by the Berlin Senate Administration for Culture and Europe. Enabled by the support of Wiesen55 e.V. and Uferstudios Berlin.

The adaptation for spectators aged 3 and over was commissioned by Theater o.N. as part of the »Offensive Tanz für junges Audience Berlin«, funded by TANZPAKT Stadt-Land-Bund and the Berlin Senate for Culture and Europe (co-financing fund) in cooperation with FRATZ International.
